Silica sand, as a high-quality industrial raw material, is widely used in glass, ceramics, electronics and other fields. However, in the production process, the mixing of iron impurities often affects the purity and performance of silica sand. In order to remove iron impurities in silica sand and improve the purity of silica sand, it is necessary to know the occurrence and distribution of iron in silica sand and what iron elements are contained, and we can master these in order to develop effective methods of iron removal.

1. Scrubbing desilting method: This is a relatively simple method of removing iron, with the mechanical force of the scrubbing machine and the friction between the sand particles to separate the film iron on the surface of the silica sand. The blade of the scrubbing machine is swiveled at a high speed, the concentration of sand scrubbing is set at 50%-60%, the quartz raw materials are thoroughly dispersed and soaked, and the soil, film iron and oxide on the surface of the material are removed, so that the surface of the material is clean.

2. Magnetic separation method: magnetic separation method is a method of using magnetic fields to separate magnetic substances. In silica sand, the magnetic properties of mineral iron such as hematite, limonite and biotite are strong, so iron impurities can be separated from silica sand by strong magnetic separator. The operation of magnetic separation method is simple and efficient, but special magnetic separation equipment is needed.

3. Flotation is a method of separating minerals using differences in surface properties. In silica sand, iron is denser and will sink to the bottom of the water, while silica sand is less dense and will float on the surface of the water. Therefore, iron impurities can be separated from silica sand by flotation. The equipment of flotation method is complicated, but the treatment effect is good.

4. Pickling method: pickling method is a chemical reaction between acid and iron impurities, so that iron impurities are dissolved in the acid, so as to achieve the purpose of removing iron impurities. The operation of pickling is simple, but it may cause certain corrosion to silica sand.

5. Shaking bed spiral gravity separation method: The iron element in the silica sand exists in the form of heavy minerals, need to use the beneficiation shaker and spiral chute and other methods for gravity separation, this gravity separation method can effectively reduce the titanium content in the iron ore, but also efficiently wash out the sand in the silica sand, so as to achieve the double effect of removing iron and improving the quality of silica sand, the shaking table with the iron remover, the iron removal effect is better.
